Welcome to the Warriors Wrestling Club (WWC)
Our organization is about youth who want to participate, as well as adults who may want to coach in the “World’s Oldest and Greatest Sport.”
WWC Organizational Information
1. The WWC home office is located in Steilacoom, WA with its main training facility located at Pioneer Middle School Fitness Room in DuPont (located at the back of the school where the school buses park) with the youth of Steilacoom Historical School District, Steilacoom, DuPont, Northern Thurston County and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA. Membership of athletes outside of the Steilacoom Historical School District is limited to 25% of the total team roster.
2. The Club is structured as a nonprofit corporation existing and operating within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and the laws of the State of Washington and is a nonsectarian/non-partisan charities organization. The duration of the Club shall be perpetual.
3. The WWC is a subordinate organization of the DuPont-Steilacoom Youth Association and is also a charter member of USA Wrestling and the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League (PCJWL).
MISSION – The mission of the WWC is to:
Promote excellence in the sport of amateur wrestling and positively influence the lives of club members.
Provide a fun and affordable experience through a team oriented environment during all training and
competitive situations with a heavy emphasis being placed on sportsmanship, development of life skills, physical conditioning, goal setting, competitive spirit, strong work ethic and a winning attitude.
PURPOSE – The purpose of the WWC shall be to:
Provide administrative and operational support in the sport of amateur wrestling (at all levels) to all
Steilacoom Historical School District youth, as well as the youth who reside in the communities of Steilacoom, DuPont, and JBLM in Pierce County, WA.
The Club will operate (when applicable) in accordance with the by-laws, rules and policies of the
DuPont-Steilacoom Youth Association (DSYA), WWC, the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League (PCJWL), the Washington State Wrestling Association (WSWA) and the USA Wrestling (USAW) rules, by-laws, and policies.
Develop a championship wrestling program that will be viable within the Steilacoom Historical School
District and surrounding communities with a priority of assisting in the development of area youth too not only become champions on the mat but also in life.
Make available opportunities for Club members to provide community service support by volunteering
their time, efforts and resources in support of WWC events. The spirit and intent of the Club shall be that no wrestler will be dropped due to the lack of ability.
Promote positive involvement for role model parents toward helping their athlete gain an appreciation
for the sport of wrestling, while building the athletes self-confidence, values, determination, self-discipline, and respect for coaches and teammates.
Age and Grade Requirements
Girls and boys in grades kindergarten through the seventh grade and who are between 5 – 12 years of age (must be 5-years of age by September 1st, 2016 and must not be turning 13 years of age before January 1st, 2017) are eligible to participate during the 2016-17 PCJWL season. Additional training opportunities may become available for ages 13 and up during the early fall, spring and summer months.
Costs
1. The registration fee for the Folkstyle wrestling season (October – February) is $75.00 for each athlete and if a family is registering multiple children, then the cost will be $55.00 for the second child and $45.00 for each additional child thereafter. All registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and are used to cover club expenses such as uniforms, tournament operational costs, club charter/league fees and miscellaneous operational needs.

USA Wrestling Folkstyle Card is required and cost is $15.00 and can be purchased online at http://www.usawmembership.com
Entry fees for tournaments, typically $5.00 - $25.00 per event if applicable.
Wrestling shoes, workout clothes, headgear or any other equipment (approximately $100.00).
Transportation costs, hotel costs, meals, etcetera (if applicable).
Primary medical/dental insurance.

Practices and Competitions
1. Practices will begin on or after October 10th, 2016 (final dates yet to be determined) and will be held 2 – 4 times a week (depending on the number of athletes who sign up to participate) and are normally held in the Pioneer Middle School fitness room in DuPont (located at the back of the school where the school buses park).
2. Competitions for the PCJWL folkstyle season will begin on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 and will conclude in February 2017 with the Washington State Folkstyle Wrestling Championships.
League events are usually held in Pierce, Thurston and King Counties but may also be located in additional geographical locations in Washington State.
Participation Requirements
1. All athletes’ must have the following documents provided and on file before they can participate:
a. A fully completed team registration packet with original signatures. Email Cheryl Garcia
at [email protected] to receive your registration packet via email.
b. A current USAW Folkstyle Wrestling Card with athlete aligned under the WWC. USAW Card for
the 2016 – 17 season cannot be purchased until September 1st, 2016 at http://www.usawmembership.com and each club member must be aligned under the WWC. Online instructions to purchase your wrestlers USAW card are available upon request.
2. Wrestling shoes are required for competitions and all practices. Few local sporting goods stores are carrying wrestling shoes wrestling shoes cost can vary from approximately $30.00 - $100.00 and caution should be used when ordering the correct size for your athlete; ensure you follow all vendor size charts when ordering.
Sometimes you’ll find wrestling shoes at Sports Authority, Big 5 Sports or at Dicks’ Sporting Goods but selections and sizes may be limited so you may need to order them on-line. Listed below are two of the world’s largest wrestling equipment companies and both are located in WA state and each offers a wide range of youth and adult wrestling equipment (wrestling shoes, head gear, kneepads, mouth pieces, skin protection products, etc.). Use your favorite search engine to find many more online wrestling equipment vendors.

3. Head gear is also required for each athlete for all competitions (unless otherwise noted) and highly encouraged for practices. Head Gear cost can range from approximately $20.00 - $50.00 and can be found at the online vendors listed earlier or any online vendor you choose to select. If possible, when ordering head gear, try to order black or red to match our team colors.
4. Mouth Guards are mandatory for competitions and practices for those athletes who have orthodontic devices and can be ordered online or we encourage you consult your Dentist for guidance. Mouth Guards have also been used in the prevention of concussions but that is a personal family choice.
5. Clean Gear and Personal Hygiene. Using clean work our gear and showering after each practice and competition is a must in keeping all athletes healthy. Clean work out gear consists of shorts, t-shirts, undergarments and socks are required for each practice; we cannot emphasis enough how important clean gear and personal hygiene is in our sport.
Age Divisions and Weight Classes
1. During practices and competitions, wrestlers are divided by age, weight, experience level (early ages) and sometimes grade level.
2. Age divisions can vary depending on what organization is conducting the competition. The WWC for the most part will be participating in local Pierce County Junior Wrestling League (PCJWL) events and some USAW – Washington State Wrestling Association (WSWA) Folkstyle competitions in WA State.
3. Please note weight classes are subject to change and club officials will ensure to keep all parents and wrestlers informed. Female wrestlers may be matched up against male wrestlers but will only compete against male opponents with parental permission. Tournament officials and coaches will ensure to the best of their ability that beginner wrestlers (1st and 2nd year wrestlers) are matched up by skill level.
Pierce County Junior Wrestling League (PCJWL) Age, Weight Divisions and Match Times
1. PCJWL age divisions are divided into two groups; Eight (8) and under and Nine (9) and over (with no wrestlers allowed to turn 13 years old before December 31st of the current seasons calendar year).
2. Eight (8) and under weight classes will be: 40, 45, 50, 54, 58, 63, 69, 78, 90, 100, and 110. Eight and
under 110-pound wrestlers shall weigh a minimum of 100 pounds and the maximum weight differential allowed between 110 eight and under wrestlers is twenty (22) pounds.
3. Nine (9) and over weight classes will be: 58, 63, 66, 69, 73, 77, 81, 86, 91, 96, 103, 110, 120, 145 and
175. Nine and over 175-pound wrestlers shall weigh a minimum of 145 pounds and the maximum weight differential allowed between 175-pound nine and over wrestlers is thirty (32) pounds.
4. All wrestlers (boys and girls) will weigh-in in a singlet at all weigh-ins. A wrestler may move up no more than one weight class over the scratch weight he registers at the official weigh-in for any specific competition.
Wrestlers may weigh-in no sooner than two (2) hours before scheduled mat time, not later than one-half (½) hour before mat time at dual matches. Tournament weigh-ins will last 2 hours and finish 1 hour before tournament start time
5. Exhibition wrestlers will be in the same weight class or weigh within five (5) pounds of one another. Weigh-in for exhibition match wrestlers may be waived with the mutual agreement of both coaches.
6. Matches shall be provided for all wrestlers of both teams, if present, willing, and able to wrestle. Upon agreement by both coaches, anyone younger, older, lighter, or heavier than the league requirements may participate in a wrestling match from either or both teams. These matches will be exhibition and shall not be included in the team score. Exhibition and junior varsity matches should precede the varsity matches.
7. All scoring matches will be comprised of three periods with length as follows:
Eight and Under - 60/60/60 seconds.
Nine and Over - 90/60/60 seconds.
8. Overtime Criteria: In the event of a tie score at the end of three periods, a one (1) minute rest period will be taken. After the rest period, a one (1) minute, sudden-death overtime period will be wrestled starting from a neutral position. The overtime (and, if necessary, the tie breaker) is an extension of the match and all warnings and penalties are carried into this time. The match will end with the first point(s) awarded whether technical or penalty and the winner declared. If no points have been awarded by the end of one minute overtime period, a thirty (30) second tie breaker will be wrestled. There will be no rest period between the overtime and the tie breaker. After a coin toss to determine choice, the wrestler may select top, bottom, or defer to the other wrestler. The first wrestler awarded any points will be declared the winner. If no scoring occurs, the offensive wrestler will be declared the winner.
USAW – WSWA Folkstyle Age, Weight Divisions and Match Times
1. Pee-Wee Division (boys and girls) ages and weight–classes:
Pee-Wee Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2011. WWC Pee-Wee boy and girl wrestlers must
be 5-years of age no later than October 1st, 2016 to be eligible to compete.
Pee-Wee weight– classes have yet to be determined for the 2016-2017 season by the WSWA and during
last season state championships they ranged from 30 – 65 pounds. Sometimes a system called the “Madison Bracketing System” may be used during practices and or tournaments (at the tournament director's discretion) to group wrestlers together that are close to the same weigh (usually within 2-3 pounds and no more than 5 pounds) and experience. This method attempts to group a bigger number of kids together to wrestle each other instead of having a bunch of weight–classes that only have a few wrestlers in each weight–class.
Pee-Wee match length times will consist of three 1–minute periods.
2. Intermediate Girls Division ages and weight–classes:
Intermediate Girls Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2008 through 2010.
Intermediate Girls weight–classes (in pounds) 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 85+.
Intermediate Girls match length times will consist of three 1–minute periods.
3. Bantam Boys Division ages and weight classes:
Bantam Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2009 or 2010.
Bantam Boys Division weight – classes (in pounds) consist of: 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 75+ (15 pounds maximum difference in the 75+ pound weight–class).
Bantam Boys match length times will consist of three 1–minute periods.
4. Intermediate Boys Division ages and weight–classes:
Intermediate Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2007 or 2008.
Intermediate Boys weight–classes (in pounds) 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 87, 95, 103, 112, 120, 120+ (20 pounds maximum difference in 120+ weight–class).
Intermediate Boys match length times will consist of three 1–minute periods.
5. Novice Boys Division ages and weight–classes:
Novice Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2005 or 2006.
Novice Boys Division weight– classes (in pounds) 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140, 140+ (25 pounds maximum difference in 140+ weight–class).
Novice Boys match length times will consist of one 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
6. Novice Girls Division ages and weight–classes:
Novice Girls Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2005 through 2007.
Novice Girls Division weight– classes (in pounds) 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 102, 110, 118, 118+.
Novice Girls match length times will consist of one 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
7. Schoolboy Division ages and weight–classes:
Schoolboy Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2003 or 2004.
School Boys Division weight– classes (in pounds) 70, 77, 84, 91, 98, 105, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 175, 190, 210 and 265.
Schoolboy match length times will consist of 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
8. Schoolgirl Division ages and weight–classes:
Schoolgirl Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2003 through 2004.
Schoolgirl Division weight– classes (in pounds) 81, 89, 97, 105, 113, 120, 128, 137, 145, 155, 175, 195.

Novice Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2005 or 2006.
Novice Boys Division weight– classes (in pounds) 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140, 140+ (25 pounds maximum difference in 140+ weight–class).
Novice Boys match length times will consist of one 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
6. Novice Girls Division ages and weight–classes:
Novice Girls Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2005 through 2007.
Novice Girls Division weight– classes (in pounds) 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 102, 110, 118, 118+.
Novice Girls match length times will consist of one 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
7. Schoolboy Division ages and weight–classes:
Schoolboy Boys Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2003 or 2004.
School Boys Division weight– classes (in pounds) 70, 77, 84, 91, 98, 105, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 175, 190, 210 and 265.
Schoolboy match length times will consist of 1–minute and two–1:30 periods.
8. Schoolgirl Division ages and weight–classes:
Schoolgirl Division will consist of wrestlers born in 2003 through 2004.
